hi peeps, is there any software updates for the e70's or do you just buy a new nav map? Also any links to latest maps that can be downloaded?

Does your car use a DVD for the sat nav system? If so there are no facilities to download up-dates - you have to buy the latest DVD.  Mine is a 2007 model registered in 2008 and has the DVD based system. More recently made cars do have a hard drive based system but I don't know when the change-over took place.

On 22nd December 2016 I got an email from BMW advertising the latest maps DVD which for my car cost £79 and covers all of Europe, UK and Ireland on 2 discs. Search for this reference "Stay on course with BMW Navigation Map Updates" or visit your local BMW dealer's parts dept to see if they can help.  I got the 2017 version for mine from the local dealer at this price instead of buying on line to replace the 2008 maps (all on one disc) which was getting long in the tooth!!

If your car's sat nav works off a hard drive system then I trust someone else will be able to assist...

Hope this helps,

Graeme

If you have the HDD system you can update via USB.
The dealer will provide the maps and a unique FSC code to install the new map. The code is generated from the car's VIN

Thanks guys mine has the dvd. Is it normal for the DVD player to make disc spinning noise even though I am not using the nav?? Going back to my original post, I guess I have to just buy new sat nav and no iso file I can burn??

Hello,

Indeed it does!  Mine spins and whirrs whenever the "key" is in the slot, even though the car is stationary such as at traffic lights or when I put it into the garage and sit for a few moments!

There are different versions of the system and buying off ebay can be fraught - I tried one years ago for an E53 and it wouldn't recognise the new disc - different version.  At the time they were about £200 from the dealer so I suppose the latest price of £79 is a reduction, even though they are still dear.  When I went to the dealer he put the vin code into the system to get the right one, and I recall the on-line offer from BMW had a facility to do the same so they checked you would receive the right version for your car.

Hope this helps,

Graeme

You need one compatible with the MOST bus system type iDrive so the E53 version won't work.  OEM supply is all we can discuss on the Forum.  Owner's rules  :)

Have had a couple off ebay over the years with no problems - suggest checking feedback and the quality of the listing as some are better than others. Have just upgraded my E70 DVD Nav to 2016 maps for just £8.50 - Astonishing value as it has speed cameras and 7 digit post code entry as well (but not delved into the menus yet to use them). Extra features are hidden quite deep within the menus though but have had no compatibility issues and works just like the massively over priced one from the stealers.

As mentioned above by X5Sport, discussions about non-OEM /alternative sat nav disks available cheaply off ebay etc are not allowed on this site as the site owners forbid it - there could be legal issues from BMW as these discs are essentially pirated/ hacked versions of the BMW software.

Also please be aware that some of these dodgy discs have "bricked" nav units in the past.

It is under three figures of Britain's finest pounds to get all the sat nav discs for the whole of Europe directly from the dealer.
