Dip Stick

Is there a dip stick for the gearbox on the 4.4 V8 X5? If so where is it? 
No dipstick. The transmission is supposed to be sealed for 'life', though the definition of 'life' now seems to vary! The only way to check the fluid level is with the car raised and level. There are some tips in this article from Xoutpost..it's worth a read. The fluid level is checked via a plug in the side. Some of the comments refer to a 5sp box, hence reading carefully is needed.
