I have a bicycle rack that fits onto the towbar. It also has brake , tail and indicator lights on it. When I plug the trailer cable in the "CHECK TRAILER LIGHTS " signal comes on. Is there anything that I should check

Is this sudden? Has it ever worked?

Is it an OEM system or aftermarket.

Need to know a lot more ...

Doesn't this happen if the specific plug in electrics are not fitted ?
Extra resistance of tail lights on bike rack causes X to think a bulb has gone.
I've been looking at getting a towbar for mine & was told without the plug in kit it may show up with lamp faults, also with proper kit the X5 then knows there is a trailor & adjusts suspension, esp etc to suit.

Hi i had this come up the other day when I had my trailer attached all the lights seamed to be working. I have a 13pin on the car and the two 7pin splitter attached for a caravan. I only had one off the plugs fitted and put it down to that. I have the westfalia and dedicated plug in adaptor fitted. The fault cleared when the trailer was removed.

I sometimes get this when towing either of my trailers.....my X has a factory fitted detachable towbar. Sometimes its fine, othertimes the message flashes up although the lights always seem to be working. Apparently something to do with higher resistance as above, but it is a nuisance all the same.
What "plug in kit" is referred to above? Anything I need to know about for the factory fitted towbar?
