I'm loving my 3.0SD and have covered 1600miles in the last 3 weeks!  I have discovered only 1 fault so far, at over 50mph and when only lightly holding the steering wheel I get a wobble on the wheel when I brake.

If i'm holding it with 2 hands I don't notice it but with 1 hand lightly it is really noticeable.  All wheels have been balanced and it handles as it should and i'm not getting any funny noises.  there is no pulsing of the brake pedal which I've had on other cars with warped disks. 

Is there anything in the front suspension that I should be checking.

Hi, first I would just check wheel bolts are secure, just in case.

A cheap option is a visit to thre tyre specialist ask them to check the tracking and wheel balancing on the front. It is likely the balancing will change due to tyre wear meaning the weights will have changed.

After that it I would check the track rod ends again fairly simple to check for play.

Also it may still be worth checking the discs with a guage as my Mrs car wasn't that bad to drive, but the gauge said it was, so had to replace the discs and pads.

I think if you do a quick search there was also a recent post in which a similar prob was down to the front suspension control arms.

Thank you, 4 wheel alignment and balance has been done in the last 10 days.  I'll get the disks checked and search the forum again.

Yes i had a similar problem on my 35D and it got fixed with both discs and pads and lower track control arms...
All great now...

Thanks for the replies.  I haven't looked underneath yet but I assume 2 control arms each side (wishbones?).  Economical way will be to replace the bush not the arm?

Bushes seem refreshingly reasonable, how much of a job is it to fit?  Cost?

wobble only under braking ? Probably is disks and pads. However most other wobbles I would immediately go for control arms. Known problem with BMW's . Normally get a shimmy between 50-60 mph as an indication and also at times under breaking.

There are 2 control arms each side as you say. One going forward and the main one running from chassis to wheel/upright.
I found its more the ball joints on the arms that wear out, easier just to replace the whole arm..
