Maps Question - BMW Newbie so bear with me.......

Post by martins8585 » Thu Mar 09, 2017 11:24 am

Hi all - picked up my 1st BMW (low mileage 2012 X5 from a main stealer) a couple of weeks ago and acclimatising after years of Range Rover Sport ownership.

So far, my impressions are broadly positive and I have a quick maps question. My nav system is currently Premium 2011i - are there any benefits / extra functionality to upgrading to the latest version apart from a few extra roads appearing that have been built since this version was released?

Cheers
Martin

Congrats on purchase

You have pretty much summed up the benefits of map updates, other than additional costs and a couple of new roads there is little difference, however having the knowledge of having the latest maps installed is priceless!

Hi snrbrtsn - thanks for the quick response!

Ha ha - the glorious satisfaction of knowing you're using the latest version. (And of course it eliminates the male OCD that influences these purchases, "What roads am I missing out on??")

Even with the latest maps I was still driving over fields on roads near my parents that have been in place for 3 years now ...

That's coz you live in rural England.  You don't have roads, only cart tracks.

I might be, but my parents are in developed NL. You know where the roads are smooth and without potholes  :))

Ooh, can I ask where you bought your updated map software from? £40 sounds cheap, and if it gives 7 digit post codes it sounds well worth it!? Just bought my 1st E70 X5 SD, looks like it's on original map software!
