MPG low & Autobox

Morning chaps,

I know that this topic has been done to death but I'm really starting to lose my rag with the car now. I do approx 100 miles a week in my car at a cost of £30 for fuel. The MPG very rarely gets above 22mpg when not driving on the motorway. On the motorway it creeps up to about mid 20's at the most.

The car seems to hold onto the gears up to  approx 2.5K rpm (not in sport mode) - so for example, if I'm driving in a 40 zone, instead of changing up it will keep the car in a lower gear between 2.5K and 3K rpm.

Out of interest I tried driving this week changing gears manually and managed to get 29 mpg out of the car which was pretty good.

is there anyway I can change the characteristics of the gearbox to adapt to a more economical style of driving?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Is your temp gauge reaching the 12 o'clock position , or
Staying at about a quarter? The box has a cold running setting. If your thermostat or temperature
Sensor Is defective it will cause the car to hang on to gears till it warms up. Check out hidden menu to check what temperature Is being read, should be 95 -110 degs C after 10 Mins or so

Thanks for the response - very interesting. I'll take a look when I'm driving home tonight and post back.

Hi Tom
29 mpg sounds about right,you should be able to achieve that in auto if you can behave yourself!
Have you tried a full reset? Have a look at this:

Good luck

Just a quick update on this;

The temperature of the car was a little low, I'll get that looked at when it goes in next.

I did the reset too, that made a difference. There is some conflicting opinions on what that reset actually does (throttle reset or gearbox, I'm not sure which) but there is a difference for sure.

Thanks chaps,

Tom

It was linked to above but it's disappeared. Luckily I saved it in my favourites;

I think you need software access to reset gearbox adaptations properly.
