the e70 and f models have what appears to be same engine same output but one is eu5 other eu6
what did they do to it and is it retrofit option?

differences between bmw eu5 and eu6 diesel 3.0
Re: differences between bmw eu5 and eu6 diesel 3.0
I think eu5 and eu6 are European emission standards and BMW must've tune them both differently to meet each of the standards. As to exactly what are the differences, I'm sure more knowledgeable members will chime in.
Mechanical aspects of the engines may be exchangeable but don't think electrics and other sensory fittings would work across both engine without major electrical surgery, if at all.

EU6 & EU6 are standards as suggested. My EU6 Škoda Superb 3 needs to have a Selective Catalytic Reduction system as well as a DPF in the exhaust stream to meet the tighter NOX limits. The SCR needs to have a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (Ad Blue) injection system installed with all of the monitoring systems. If it runs out of fluid the engine will it start.
You are talking major mods to the electronics, exhaust, sensors and control systems to make the changes. I think the hardware alone on VW 4-cyl cars is around £1,000 or more. Not an easy thing to do, hence VW 'cheating' to keep the costs down (and shareholder profits up).
SCR systems 'appear' to clobber the economy. My 2.0L 190bhp diesel Superb struggles to do 42mpg whereas the non-SCR equipped version achieves almost 60mpg.

just wondering if the diesel demonisation continues what are the options mechanics are the same emissions half if it's a case of some urea and an exhaust mod this might be viable considering.
