FRM Replacement - service? - help/advice

Morning all  - first time here and need your help if possible,

I currently have a E70 3.0D 3.5Mxdrive  2010 - 80k miles    I took to my local BMW for a service yesterday for air filter and oil change and software upgrade (due to recall) - fairly straight forward low service. - they said due to the upgrade it will need to be left with them for a full day and i was supplied with a courtesy car
I received a call from BMW yesterday to question had i had any warning faults come up - which i advised only my service light indicator
BMW then asked had i had any problems as my main beam and indicators no longer work and my FRM (footwell module) needs to be replaced - supply fit and labor - £600+  to say i'm unhappy is an understatement.
I replied it was fine when i left it and it occurred during the time they had it - currently i still have their courtesy car and they are calling me back today to advise total cost - they said the FRM was on its way out and needs replacing - where do i stand with the cost? - they said they will try and apply a discount - but?

Appreciate any feedback  - Thanks Parkie

Sounds like they have bricked it up whilst doing the software upgrade. Sounds to be a common problem on the E70 and 3 series, so a few searches show up.
Looks like a few people repair them

Would that be a viable option for you, as the car may be unusable until your unit was returned.
It also says that certain faults can't be repaired, so maybe worth giving a few places a call.
I think if you buy a second hand one they need coding to the car.

Let's just clarify this..... when you took the car in, all was working fine... As a result of something they have done, it now doesn't work fine.

Forgive me if I'm being thick here, but the difference seems to me to be something that the dealer has done, so it's down to them to make it good. You want it back in the condition you took it in.... that's not an unreasonable expectation is it ?

update  - success - they agreed to cover the whole amount - funny that - but they didn't admit it was their fault -
said as a goodwill gesture BMW will replace FRM  - only charged for the interval service  - think we all know what happened there....  cheers Parkie..

Hooky Dealer!  Not the first time that has happened.  At least they paid the bill even if not admitting liability.
