Anyone see an obvious problem here ?

Taken my abs module off to send away for testing and repair , but before I do can anyone see anything obviously wrong ? I've no idea what I'm looking for ! I know there's a circuit board somewhere underneath but not confident enough to take it to bits and have a look

sorry I can't help but got a question. What did you have to remove to get the module out, mine looks like I could get at it by moving the power steering reservoir. That was supposed to be today's job. So while waiting for the rain to stop I put in a scrappy search and it came up with a second hand one for £236. How does that compare with repair costs. Presumably you would have to add coding to scrappy one price.

If it is an E53 unit then I would expect it to be a straight swap as the yaw and braking system determine whether it fires or not. Might be a wrong assumption though.

Came off easy really , removed air box , unplugged abs hookup, remove 6 torx screws and out !
As for cost difference , the test and repair I found is £69 plus 4.90 postage. They can't guarantee to repair all modules , but if they can't repair it's just the testing fee of £15.

Yes if you buy a different module it needs coding to the car , costs about £100 at stealers , but I've got all the BMW software in my laptop so I can do the coding myself .

I changed one and fitted second hand module with identical part number and no coding needed.
Inside the circuit side is full of tiny hair like wires with a layer of jelly type stuff over them.
I have done some fine soldering work in the past but would have no chance with one of these.

All the posts on removing the module say just remove airbox, I can only assume they are all 3.0l engines. Mine is on the opposite side of the engine bay under power steering reservoir. The captive nuts for the screws holding the reservoir are spinning so cant get that out, started removing the coolant header tank to get whole housing out, then it started pissing down, oh yes I'm having a wonderful day.

Or left hand drive?
I know on our E46 changing the starter on the LHD models means serious disassembly (undertrays, exhaust, propshaft & lower the gearbox), but the RHD versions it's just a b'std to get at after you take the inlet manifold off. Sometimes driving on the correct side of the road is sooo much better

I have a 4.4, so suspect the same engine bay layout.
You'll need to remove the coolant header tank, the power steering fluid reservoir and oil filter housing. By remove I mean unbolt, not disconnect pipework (other than the small return pipe for the coolant header tank to top radiator hose).
If the captive nuts are spinning, you should (probably) be able to remove the two support bracket bolts and lift the whole thing up enough to get some grips on them. Removing the oil filter housing might also help, though I'm not sure you'll be able to move it much as the power steering reservoir is in the way.
Also be aware there is a spigot on the bottom of the oil filter housing which sits in a hole on the support bracket - you need to lift it up before it will move sideways.
I need to remove my module too, and it might be that removing the headlight gives better access. If I beat you to it I'll let you know!
