I have replaced the halogen spot bulbs to 35w hid/ballast bulbs.on the wife's E46 2003
What resistor do I need to solder into circuit to defeat the bulb error light.
A'' how to'' would be handy , or another forum answer (E46), and will I have similar probs when I do this on my E53 ?
Have had major foot reconstruction 12weeks ago and still on no load bearing on left foot regime : plates, screws, wire, and am getting bored, have got to get my brain into gear to do some more mods.

On the E53 get the 55w HID kit from HIDS direct, no error messages that way. Just need to drill a hole on the back of the headlight for the cables, comes with the grommet to deal up the unit afterwards. Job done

Most HID kits are error free, as mentioned, when fitting LEDs you need to fit a load resistor equal to the original bulb, so if you had 35w halogens you need a 35 w resistor per bulb.
If you have scanner 1.4.0 or Carly you can disable the bulb out warning for that bulb. I'd try it first to see if it throws an error.

You might want to run a 50W rated resistor in case a 35W gets hot due to being run 'at the limit'.

Silly question..... 50w resistor, do I solder into pos or neg lead to the bulb ?

Either. Normally pos but in a DC circuit either is fine as the current still gives through the resistor to get to ground.

Thanks for that, now to get the soldering iron out.
