Hi

I'm not sure but X5 Sport should be able to help, generally though stick to manufacturers spec for the oils you can't go far wrong if doing it yourself.

They are both another 'lifetime oil' item so BMW don't change either end.  Realoem may give you a clue and should have a part number for the oil that may take you to the answer.

I don't remember anyone on here doing an E70 (so far).

It probably won't hurt to do it at 60,000 miles as per the E53?

Hi,

I would change them @ 60K .
I may be wrong ( but don't think I am ) but sealed for life in car manufacturers speak I think means 60K miles. Try getting BMW warranty for something over 60 K on the clock and the premium is stupid.
Anyway , I have a few frds in the trade and you won't believe how many gearboxes that are sealed for life give up the ghost between 80-100 K.
Thus I change my oils/fluids . I think its cheap preventative maintenance.

Sealed for life does NOT mean what you think it does.

If proof were needed , it was quite a long time ago there was an article in the official BMW magazine about an E30 BMW that had done 1 mio ( yes 1,000,000 ) miles without any components being replaced. It was run entirely with Mobil 1 and when they  took the engine apart everything was still within new factory tolerance.
If thats not proof of changing your fluids i don't know what is..............

The guardian also reported it back in 2009

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... mile-motor

Best of luck.

BMW 'life' is 3-years/60,000 miles.  After that, buy a new one  >:(

I would change it before 60000, if your planning on keeping it , look after it, and its not sealed for life thats a myth.

I had these done when I changed the gearbox fluid at 70k miles.  I supplied the ZF kit and fluid, auto transmission specialist supplied the oils for the diffs/transfer box. Can't remember what oil they said they took but it cost about £80 extra including the fluids.
