So I was upgrading the software on my unit to mk3 When the unit crashed.
I removed the disc and power the unit to find it has gone to an old school teletext format.
So I entered the disc again but nothing is happening.
So my question is. Is there away of getting the normal screen back up to start the update again
Cheers

Help needed (Head unit problem)
Re: Help needed (Head unit problem)
Cant really help with your problem but I was told earlier this year by a BMW indy that there was a problem with some of BMWs software updates that bricked the head unit. My car is an X6.
He told me this as he said the problem I had could possibly be fixed by an update but would not do it without me signing a waiver to say he was not responsible if anything went wrong. He had found this out by knackering a customers head unit and he had to fund the replacement unit.
He said that BMW knew of the problem and at some point the software would be available again without any problems attached.
It looks like you are in for a big bill.

Re: Help needed (Head unit problem)
Shouldn't be to much if the head unit is broken as I was thinking of buying a new one anyway. It's on an old e53 so not to expensive for a mk4 either.

Re: Help needed (Head unit problem)
If you can get hold of an earlier version of the firmware try reloading that and then working up to a new version.
The problem is in the Nav computer itself, not the head unit. The video you see comes from the drive unit, not the head.
It is crucial that the firmware disc is burnt at the lowest possible speed and using a high quality disc. Failing to follow this guidance runs a risk of bricking the Nav computer unit in the boot and it may not be recoverable, meaning you must put a new Nav computer in.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Help needed (Head unit problem)
X5 sport nice one. Should I try disconnecting the power to the nav computer first?
It also won't let me eject the disc.
I to hold down the eject button wait a couple of mins then push the button twice for it to eject.
