Half way through a journey the rear wiper stopped wiping. Luckily it is parked is the right place. The washer still works.

Any clues where to look first?

Thanks in advance.

Motors have been known to go, relays/ relay bad connection. Switch.
Find out which relay it is , check signal voltage at relay / or if relay is clicking/ operating , when the stork is activated, check voltage at wiper motor, if you have voltage at the motor and it still doesn't work. Probably motor is toast. As said first point of call is the fuse.. good luck

Another thing to check is where the spindle passes through the glass. Mine was stopping/ going slow until I removed the end seal and put some WD40 in it.

To follow up now I've fixed it...

Along the lines of the post above:

No problems with supply to unit and washer pump still worked, so figured it was an issue within the unit.

Removed it and dismantled, to find a build up of crud around the bushes / motor commutator. A squirt of cleaner and polish up sorted the problem for free.

Bushes are very low so I expect it to fail again at some point. Will begin a search for replacements.

Don't spend money replacing things you can fix within an hour with nothing more specialised that a torx bit! ;-)

Interesting subject, looks like a job for some day I'm bored and put it down as preventive maintenance. Well done for fixing it and  letting us know

Out of interest, it is an identical unit in the L322 Range Rover - complete with BMW logo...
