New to the forum and 'X' BMWs, but not new to BMWs

Howdy

I'm currently in the thought process of looking for a new daily car, once the winter is over etc...

I own a 2007 BMW E60 M5 as well as a MG ZT V6 190 as my daily (M5 is away in dry storage). But, the M5 will probably be sold on come the New Year as we'd like to get an extension built ASAP (before or early stages of starting a family), so needs-must etc! The ZT will be sold as well, but for pennies as that's all they're worth really, but a MG/Rover 75 fan will no doubt pay better money for it etc

However, I am considering getting a 645i as a weekend toy as well seeing as they've come down in price quite a bit, but would love an X5 as my daily! The 645i will be later on in the year though unless I come across one that ticks all boxes...

I work & run my business for home, so the mileage per year is only around 3k, maybe 4k at a push! So a V8 will be the flavour etc

Ideally I'm after an X5 4.4 or 4.6 V8, ideally with full service history (not necessarily BMW) and that's been well looked after! A big want is heated/electric memory seats and xenons etc... Not too bothered re head-unit as can soon fit my own decent double din unit (Kenwood, Pioneer CarPlay etc)

Budget will be around £4k-£6k; do you think what I'd like is within budget parameters etc?

I've previously owned BMW E38s (728i and a 740i) and an E39 530i, so I think they stand me in good stead for the X5 as they all seem to share various parts etc

You could well find a car in that budget range, but not a 4.8 as they perhaps are still too new for that, so a 4.6 may be nearer.

Read the Buyers Guide for tips and to avoid traps.  When the E53 breaks it can do expensively.

GLW your search though, and no doubt other V8 owners will be along with all the +vest and a few -ves to watch out for.

I have a 2002 4.4.
Had the car for 10 years, I would add to my'' want list''  : Comfort seats (once driven, will not want any other)also lpg (will give equiv of 30-35 mpg).

Not interested in LPG as I do little mileage, it'll be wasted on me, but also not looking at the expense of having it fitted either etc

Hi and welcome,

As others have said you may struggle to get a late model car but keep a look out for a well cared for one with details of work done and maintenance as the cars if good are great, but if you end up with one that has not been maintained they can be problematic.

Its worth keeping a look out on the forum for cars for sale as well.


Remember to check all the electrics throughly more than once to make sure all work including folding mirrors, pres the check control button on the dash cluster to mater sure no errors showing, check rear footwells for dampenss on the carpets, if a pan roof check it works thoroughly.

Also have a read of the buyers guide as it's a great help and then do the usual car checks tyres bodywork hpi etc.

I ended up with an E53 4.4 which was great to drive and it's worth keeping on top of any issues crop up.
