My experience of Dealership are stealers

I've recently bought a X5 E70 3.0d sport 2012 from a independent car dealer with a full BMW service history, the car is fantastic only done 36000 miles when I bought it, it's now got 39000 miles after 5 months of ownership and it my first BMW I've owned, I've been reading up about these motors and issues that they have, looked into buying a BMW warranty spoke to them and they said it has to have a full BMW service history so looked at my services history more in depth, noticed from the invoices supplied with the car and stamps in service book one stamp was missed out, so rang the dealership where it was serviced, which was Williams Manchester explained to them that a stamp from 2014 had been missed they confirmed we can stamp the service book at a cost of £54 [emoji35] I think a charge of £54 sounds too much what do you guys think should I pay? Or leave it because it is on their system that the car had been serviced.

That does seem high but iirc when I tried knights I think it was £36 and that was 3 years ago.
It may be worth checking with local dealer if they have the service history all recorded on the BMW system, if that is the case I was told that if it's on their computer system (and your key) that you'd didn't need a service book, but it is worth checking if this is the correct situation.
In which case you may not need to spend the money.

Wow, would never have cost my mind it would cost to get a service book retrospectively stamped when the service was done!?
Is this normal practice in the motor industry?

£54 for a stamp..................when it should have been done @ the time anyway = overcharging to me.
I would think from a BMW warranty perspective the service is on their records so should not stop you having the warranty.
I am hearing that quite a few manufacturers now are opting for no service book and I think that sucks as it means us the paying public cannot check the service book like we used to. I want to see a stamped service book and the invoices. I suspect its been done as another income stream.
We can check the service history for you sir but that will be £100...............great business if you can get it.
I would ask them where the £54 goes ? Is it the ink on the pad or the amount of time it takes a person to open the book on the right page and stamp/date ?
Given one takes 5 seconds and the other takes 10 seconds............
so lets be generous, if it takes them 10 seconds and its £54 , then they are on £19,440 an hour.
Great work if you can get it................!

Thankyou for your replies, been to my local BMW Jct Bradford who printed out a sheet what work was completed, and confirm it's on there system without a charge, [emoji106] spoke to BMW warranty aswell they said as long as it's on there data base there's no issues, it's a shame some dealers like Williams in Manchester where the car was bought new and serviced feel they can rip customer off just for a stamp that they missed off
