Replacement glass for E70 wing mirror- suggestions??

At lunchtime today, I was diverted onto a small road and some "mummy" was obviously in a rush and couldn't stay on her side of the road and smacked into my mirror. The mirror cover came off, but has clipped back on with a few minor scratches. The glass also fell off, but again has popped back in, but is smashed at the right hand side.

I've spoken to BMW and they want £300+ for the glass alone!!
"auto dipping exterior mirrors so the mirror glass will cost £308.56 inc VAT and P&P. "

Ideally I'd like to to keep the auto dimming function, but if it saves a small fortune then I don't really care.

Has anyone successfully replaced the glass from a supplier other than BMW?

Lots of second hand ones on ebay, but how do I know they have auto dimming?

Easy enough to replace? Certainly clipped back on easily, but not sure how the heated element etc connects. Plug and play?

Could do without a £300 bill at this time of year.

Graeme

See what price you can get through bmwcotswoldmini (a BMW Dealer), and a forum member, can do it for.  I agree it is a ridiculous amount to pay.  Send them a PM.

I think someone else had a similar issue a couple of weeks back but the 'copy' did not have the same electrical connections if I remember correctly.  The heating was there but not the auto dim LCD layer.

Something like that would do if I'm stuck, wonder if it has the blue tinge... No rush though as the mirror is fully functioning, still dims too.
