New X1 Owner

Post by garypxdrive » Tue Dec 13, 2016 9:27 am

HI all, at last I'm a BMW owner.

A 64 plate X1 Xline Xdrive 20d. Upgrades are business nav, sun glass protection (whatever that may be), auto gearbox with steering wheel gear shifting and run flats.

Impressed with the drive of the car. Amazing acceleration for a diesel. Love the x drive and also the servotronic steering.  Its a far better drive than the Qashqai it replaced. The auto box is a joy. Bulid quality is better.

But.

I had a Tekna Qashqai with all bells and whistles (auto stop, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, auto lights main and dipped, xenon lights, parking assist, all round cameras list goes on and on!) . I miss the all round cameras from, Xenon lights , folding door mirrors and the incar system. Two multi function LCD screens in a Qashqai!

I cannot believe that in a BMW I cannot bluetooth music as standard nor attach my phone for apps etc. The iDrive screen and content layout is far far inferior than the Nissan. Navigation is poor in the BMW. Fiddly and cumbersome.

Folding door mirrors an option??? My wife's Micra has these on it! No armrest either.

I would never buy a BMW from new. I was shown when buying this car the cost when it was purchased new and the deprecation on it made me feel better about the money I lost on my Qashqai.

Looking at the new X1 I see basic sat nav as standard and they now have electronic hand brake but surely they need to add more. Cannot rest on the cars just being a good drive.

Its a great car to drive and it really is a drivers car. I just wish BMW weren't so mean with options.

Hi and welcome to the foru, hope you enjoy it.

Congrats on the X1 and it looks good.

As you have found a lot of features on a BMW cars are options, especially when compared to other makes, but the cars are better built and a nicer place to be.

Therefore finding a good spec car is a must as trying to retro fit extra features on later cars such as the E70 X5 or later F15 X5 is difficult due to the electronics and module needed, which mostly means its a costly exercise and probably a visit to bmw
