4.8iS Analog gauges problem

Post by 4.8iS » Tue Dec 06, 2016 12:07 pm

As per the title - the X5 gauges are playing up. Car would start normally, would drive for 2 mins and all analogue gauges would simultaneously switch off and drop to zero. Everything else works - illumination, temperature leds, obc and check control messages. If the engine is switched off for more than 5mins, upon restart, all gauges would work as normal.

Have replaced the battery, no change. Alternator charges at 13.8 volts with lights on and seat heating on, so all good there. Everything else on the car works perfectly. INPA shows the following error codes: 63 Messwerktreiber and 189 EBV

Anyone can help?

Sounds like a dodgy capacitor on the circuit board...

You may need to check out a repair company for that..
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

EBV I believe is the electronic brake valve and is a spurious fault that can appear on an E53 and apparently can't be got rid of. Some sites suggest it's a very common fault but apart from you and me no one else on here has reported having the fault. Am still searching/reading about it. Seen some suggestions it can be disabled. If I find/fix anything I'll put it on  here.

Seems it is caused by a sensor/harness issue in the rear left wheel well. Will have a look and will report. EBV error codes for some reason are stored in the IKE, but have no connection with the gauges going off. Have found a company, which claims to be able to fix it for £149+VAT. Will do it around 19th Dec because won't need the car then. Definitely will report back once hopefully solved.
