Coming away from my other post i wanted to seek advice on how long it should take to switch out the dpf on an X5. I have had someone say its not a big job and another state it would be a pig of a job and can take several hours to complete. I was hoping someone can tell me from experience how many hours this job should take to complete.

Hi

I'm not sure but I would ask the garage concerned or poss ring BMW service and ask them for a quote on time and cost for the job, because prices and times can vary, but 7 hours seems a lot.

Are they charging you for cooling the car down if you drop the car off that morning?

I suspect the car would probably be better to leave the car with them the night before so its cold for the when they  start the job in the morning as the Dpf do get hot from other posts I have read, and could save time.

I rung around a few and it is a job that is a pain to do and i have had 4, 5 and 6 hours quoted. Options are to clean and hope its ok, replace and i know where i am with it or have it removed. A lot of places are offering this as an option. Expensive and could do with out it this close to Christmas but the replacement is the way i am going.

BTW Euro Car Parts are running a Black Friday discount so grab your parts now while they can be discounted. Its shaved just shy of £300 of the price. Not bad when BMW quoted £1768 for the part alone.

Hi

I think removing it is not an option as it will probably fail the MoT which is not good, but if you can get. The part cheaper at £300 then that's a help.

I'm not sure where you are based but f in Hertfordshire I would recommend A garage in Hitchin called Auto Service and Tuning ltd and ask for Claude very good reliable service and half the price of BMW dealer.

But if you are nearer London you could try Jason at BW Chiptune and his contact details are on this website under E53 section. Hopefully you can get a good quote.

Thanks Graham

I am in the midlands but have found a good garage. I went for a change so it will give me some good miles before playing up again.

Cheers
