More self level suspension problems, still confused?

Hi XDrivers UK
I have a 2006 X5 E53 3.0D (with Xenons) with the >SELFLEVEL SUSP. INAC< error message on my dash. It appeared a few weeks ago and has remained ever since. The rear suspension does appear to be harder and bumpier since the error appeared but it’s not that obvious. I’ve checked the suspension levels and they look fine, there’s no hissing or obvious noise, it doesn’t appear to be sagging or dropped to one side. I’ve also checked the fuse (30 amp #87) in the rear fusebox and it’s not blown, I’ve even removed the fuse and started the car but the suspension and error remains the same!
My car has subsequently been to an independent BMW specialist for a service and they ran a diagnostic check, they told me the n/s rear sensor was showing as faulty, they were too busy to repair and so I booked into another garage (not BMW) and they fitted a replacement part (2nd hand I sourced from eBay) the error remained and when they ran a test it said the o/s rear sensor was faulty! I’ve now replaced this also with a 2nd hand part but the fault remains! I’m at a loss now what to do next and so can anyone point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in advance
Will
PS - I’ve read a number of X5 forums now and generally more confused than ever about SLS and so can anyone answer?
- Does all late E53 cars feature SLS or only those with Xenons?
- I didn’t know I had SLS until the fault occurred, how can I tell if it’s working?
- Is the xenon sensor the same thing as the rear sensor or is it different?
- Where's the best place to buy new replacements other than via main dealer?
Thanks again!
