What battery do i need?

Post by Gaff » Mon Nov 14, 2016 3:29 pm

Morning guys,

I am looking for a battery to replace my existing one. I don't think the one I currently have is the original and 800 cranking amps doesn't seem to start the beast straight away, it takes a couple turns to then start. Someone said I can use the 1000CA?

I have the 3.0d MSport. 2006 E83.

Thanks.

When I had the e83 and needed a new battery, I only use one place for battery's and that's my local Mercedes Benz truck centre. All my vehicles run them when needed as they are fitted as original equipment on both the vito vans and the sprinter vans. Vito's run a75amp version and the sprinter runs a 100amp version. From memory the last 100amp I bought would have been for our old x3 and cost circa £90 with the vat. It's also a bonus that they are 24hr, in fact I do recall collecting one a number of yrs ago at about 11pm!!(I believe they are a Varta battery labelled up as Mercedes Benz)

3.0d engines also have a starter motor issue.  If it gets sluggish even with a new battery, get the starter current checked.  It should be around 180A, but can go to over 900A.  Replacement is the only option. DIY for around £200 for a Bosch one from ECP.

I fitted one of these in my X3 earlier this year:

In my previous X3 (2.0d) I fitted one of these:
