hey guys

i had an issue with my cd player in my facelift e53  2004 where it keeps saying no disc even though it was full of discs.

i ran a cd lens cleaner through it which seemed to work as it started to read 4 out of the 6 discs.

i changed the discs last week as i fancied some new tunes and it wont read any again, i have tried running the lens cleaner through it but it no worky :(

what are my options please?

unplug and wait

There was a kit available via the bay of e and other internet sources to replace the laser which seems to be the problem in the changers, if you feel up to tinkering with electronics and soldering irons......

There are also used units available on ebay, but check provenance carefully before purchase as scamsters do tend to flog faulty stuff as well . Unlike E70s, the CD changer in the E53 does not need coding to the car for it to work, so a new one would just be plug and play.

The dealers have just replaced the one in my E53 under warranty - silly prices they are from the dealers. The lasers tend to fail after years of thumping around in the boot exposed to dust and general road vibration, I think.

My twopence worth open up case again on the sides you see the 'sliders' that move the discs clean and smeer a little silicone grease on them.

i managed to get myself a dirt cheap replacement unit so i took it apart and greased up the sliders and the gear wheel on top and switched it for my unit..........works a treat although the fuse on my unit was built into the back so wasnt on show and the unit i replaced it with had the fuse sticking out the back. works ok just hoping it wont be an issue.

i now have a spare unit if anybody wants it
