Returned to the BMW fold after a 2 year sabbatical with an ML, now driving an x-demo X% 40e
730 miles in the first week, will fill up tomorrow having averaged 45 mpg. Brilliant

Friend has just ordered one for November delivery.

I'd be interested how different it feels to a normal ICE X5?

I can only compare it to my X3 30D and ML350, i have never driven an X5 diesel.
The 40e feels faster with no hesitation say at roundabouts i have the confidence to go. The power delivery is seamless, the kick down on lanes has already proved useful.
