Discount on a 40d M Sport

I haven't posted on this forum in an awfully long time. Currently have an E70 SD which I bought new back in Nov 2007! Been a great servant and am looking to replace it.

I can see from other threads that discounts on the 50d seem to be just above 20% but I am pretty sure that's not the case on the 40d. Any idea what is achievable ?

I asked my local dealer what the deal would be on a 40d M Sport which would be £67k including options...I was told £63k. So a 6% discount.....

I don't know them very well as we've only just moved to the area though we did buy a Mini from them six months ago for my wife. Still I reckon that's a pretty rubbish deal.

Also being told Jan delivery ? Is that about right ?

My 50d was circa £76k list and I paid just a touch over £60k........Why get a 40d for more?

I don't think the deals aren't there for the 40d currently hence the 50d being popular.

A friend has just ordered the hybrid and it's due in December.

Yes it's a good point. Had a look at Broadspeed after I posted this last night. Seems like the price difference after discount is £2k!

Not sure the Hybrid is for me, company car tax isn't an issue and we moved out of London last year so that angle has gone too. Incidentally if you go on to the main Sytner website you can see pre-registered new cars that don't show up on the AUC site...they have a lot of Hybrid on there.

Have you had a look through coast2coast.co.uk?

That will tell you pretty accurately the level of discount you can expect albeit I managed a further £2.5k simply by having two dealers fighting for the business but not sure how it compares to Broadspeed?

I mentioned the hybrid simply as a timeline, like you it's not for me albeit I understand it's a pretty good package.

Just had a look through Sytner and they appear to be pretty confident they'll sell a few X5's, there's shed loads of them!

Interesting there are a lot of 66 plate with delivery mileage but they are 2016 spec rather than 2017 spec which would suggest they've been in a field somewhere waiting for the 66 plate to arrive. The new iDrive is a world apart from the previous version and if you are paying top dollar I'd want the newest I could get.

If you take the number of X5's as a sample of nearly new and pre-reg cars they currently hold in stock I can't imagine how much money they have invested if you combine all of the other makes

Ah that's interesting about them not having the new iDrive etc....good spot!

If you check the Bmw used cars website there are loads of pre reg 16 & 66 plate 40d's for under £50k with pano roofs, 7 seats, 20" wheels etc all will be the run out of the old I drive and other pre year 17 upgrades though I would suspect.

Big issue is everyone who has bought them previously with little or no discount will now suffer as their used values drop even heavier. Bargains for the people buying now though!

There are definitely lots of cars about but my three must have options are Pano Roof, Third Row Seats and Comfort Seats. The latter are the best option I put on my current E70 and wouldn't consider a car without them....quite a rare option though. Then because I have young kids I want a dark interior and I don't want a car with white paint suddenly means I am very restricted!

Given how long I am likely to have this car for and the relatively small amount extra to have a car exactly to my spec it feels to me like its the way to go.

Went into a dealer today, salesman showed me the table of discounts that BMW "support" on the X5. Nothing on the 30d, £500 chassis discount on the 40d and £2500 chassis discount and £4500 deposit contribution on the 50d. Obviously you have to take finance to get the 4.5k.

So as you say and indeed the salesman said there's no point in getting the 40d especially on finance as it'll have a better residual value too.

50d it is then!

M50D is the right choice. I did a comparison on the BMW configurator and with finance/deposit/BMW contribution the 40D was more expensive......and you get 3 Turbos 381BHP and 740NM.
