Hi just joined - looks a useful forum.

I am hoping to pick on my 06 X5 on thursday and really looking forward to it. Been looking around at posts and can't find answers to these questions so hope someone can help...

Can the TV on the move restriction be disabled?

I have the comms pack tv etc. No screens in the rear though sadly. Can these be easily added and connected to a dvd player? What have you guys done?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Yes the tv can be enabled in two ways. firstly with a scanner to turn on tv in motion and secondly with a tv in motion cable from here http://www.tv-in-motion.co.uk/bmw_tv_in_motion.html
mine has it enabled but to be honest its pretty useless as on digi you loose the signal when moving and on analogue its not brill
the headrest screens can be added easily too. i got mine off ebay for less than £150 and although not fantastic quality the kids love them. they can also be wired to the front screen to play dvd on front. much better than tv that goes off all the time

Hi and thanks - just seen the wires on ebay. Does yours have the DVD player or did you add a dvd player to the existing front unit?

I take it the connections for screens are on the back of the headunit?

well I picked up the beast last night and drove it back down the m4 did about 60 miles. What a lot of metal for your money!!! Its HUGE!

Anyways, could of probs - can't get the damn thing to pair with my phone. No response from pressing buttons and switching on ignition as per instructions.

Also the parking distance control doesnt seem to do anything. Can the sound be activated/deactivated? Its a possibility.

Have ordered a boot liner (due to kids - I don't put them in the boot btw - well unless they've been naughty!) and roof bars for the hols.

Hi Paul

Congrats on your new purchase, i couldn't get my phone to pair when i got my x5. First thing to check is you are using the button in the centre console to try get the system into pairing mode (not the steering wheel one)

The problem i had is the wire that connects to that button had been trapped and cut by the sliding section. Some people have just had a connector to put back in, but i had to solder and heat shrink the broken cables. Easy enough job if you're ok with a soldering iron. I can go into further detail if you think it's worth looking at. You'll need some small torx drivers to dismantle the unit.

Regarding your bluetooth, is the 'Telephone' option showing on the OBD screen ?
Reason I ask is that my phone recently stopped connecting & would not pair with the car, it turned out the telephone option has 'disappeared'
Anyway I checked the fues in the glovebox & the two in the boot, re-started the car & the telephone option re-appeared ?
May be worth checking, see my recent post.
Can't help on PDC but can't think why you would be able to disable the sound as without it the sensors are pretty much useless ?

well I have the 'telephone' on the big tv screen - is that the obd screen??

I checked ;under the snap in thingy in the central console and the multipin connector was disconnected....

Plugged it in but no joy. Took apart the snap in bit and no wires trapped. Also pulled 73 and 74 fuses.

Haven't found the glovebox one yet - too dark.

Where is the BT unit in the boot?
