X5 diesel egr valve blank off advice needed

Hi. I have a 2001 x5 3.0 diesel e53 auto. It has just turned 1000 miles. I was considering buyin one of the egr blank off kits that is advertised. They claim better fuel consumption, smoother running, more power.
Has anyone had one of these fitted? Is there an problems in the long term? Is there any truth in there claims?
Does it effect the emissions for the mot?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards Ray.

there are no valve's in the inlet manifold on the e53,so not much to get blocked up except for the egr itself ! if the egr becomes blocked then its easy enough to clean out, if you blank the egr then what happens is the pipe coming from the turbo then gets blocked eventually with carbon.....

so why do so many folk so you can blank off the ear without any issues? Is that because it hasn't been long enough yet to block up the turbo pipe? I don't recall seeing nay posts about turbo pipes blocking up......

So this post here (replies six and seven) contradict what you've said (I think).

So how do we know who's right?
