Best place to source power for dashcam

Post by CondorX5 » Mon Sep 12, 2016 11:43 am

I kept my old dashcam (Nextbase 402) and want to install permanently in my E70 - where is the best place to piggyback power from?    I really don't want the likes of Halfords messing with it, and can't spare the time for some audio shop to have it for a day or so to do it. Was thinking of one of those piggyback fuse extenders and running the wire up to the top of the windscreen, but also wondered if the interior light switches near the windsceen were an option for power.

If you can get a wire down to the 12v in the centre console, that should be enough to provide power.

Just do this properly and take feed from junction box under passenger seat. Add fuse, connector for 12v, ground from chassis point, wire up to place you want.

I took mine from the front roof lights, not very far to route wiring, used a multimeter to find lives and earths.
