Hi,

I've been a non-participating member here for some time and thougtht that it was about time that I introduced myself.
After 4 years with my 2008 X5 30SD SE I have replaced it with a 2014 X5 40D Sport, I've attached a few pictures.
First impressions are that the new car is obviously an improvement: more refined, better ride, more toys, more efficient, a little quicker..... generally all round a bit better in all departments.

I'm finding the car to be very good so far, relaxed, fairly economic cruiser (did Birmingham to Edinburgh and returned 35mpg), comfortable and feels really quick if you want to push on but I've been happy to keep it in Eco mode and waft along most of the time.
As I mentioned previously, it's just a little better in ever way, the biggest difference being the adaptive suspension which really is a big impovement, I've found that on run flats the drive is much more refined, also, the sport mode really tightens everything up and feels much more responsive which is also great.
All in all I'm enjoying the car, my only disappointment is that is sounds too similer to my old car so doesn't always feel like I've got a new car but that's my own fault for buying largely the same car and not a fault of the car.

Thanks MarkG_M50d, what do you think of your 335d and M135, I've considered both in the past for myself and the Mrs but never driven either as yet.

Obviously quite different cars, the 335d was mine and I covered just under 70k in 3 years. I really liked it for speed and versatility but in the end the general lack of refinement is what led me to look elsewhere. I'd switched to Michelin Pilot Super Sports (non RFT) and ACS aftermarket springs which improved things enormously but in the end it was still noisy and you felt all the bumps.

The 135 is less 'refined' but it serves it's purpose better. It's my wife's car and as such is confined predominantly to school runs and short trips. It's a hoot to rag around yet the only BMW I've been able to drive in Eco pro which is still a pleasure (smooth and quiet).

I've gone for the 50d X5 so I think we should have the ideal mix of cars now. I looked at M3, M5, 5, 3 touring, Q5, Q7, Mecan, Cayenne, the 50d the only car that left me with an overall 'wow'.

Thanks Mark, interesting to know that you thought the 335 was unrefined, I've not driven the current shape but would have considered it for my Mrs; she has a Mercedes E350cdi coupe which is great but she's going to need more room soon and the 335 would be a contender, as would the 135 but I think that may be a little on the small side.

The 1 series does feel small so I would be surprised if she'd like that coming from an E-coupe.

If you are keen on BMW, maybe look at the 4 series Gran Coupe - surprisingly upmarket and one of the best looking cars they make currently in my opinion.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I agree the adaptive suspension does make a big difference esp with runflats which are very hard tyres, where as a few E70 owners have switched to Non runflats which is a way to improve the ride.

Yeah, the non-Run flats make a huge difference. On my E70 I had 20" Run flats but ran non-run flat winter tyres on 19" rims for a few months of the year and the ride was night and day.
I'm considering going for non-runflats again on the F15 when the tyres need replaced; has anyone else went with non-run flats on their F15?
