Are these prone to rusting?

Been searching through the Internet and eBay trying to find good condition spares but not much look with very good condition 1's.

I would say yes, what I would call alloy rust, by the time it was cleaned up it looked like it was all pickled and had to be filled and smoothed before painting again. Don't know how long that will last.

just take them off and get the corrosion off, paint to seal them and take them and get them wrapped.....wont happen again.

These X5 mirrors are dreadfully expensive... as above, take apart, rub down, Seal & repaint.
It is a small part & will be easy to do.

Tape over the hole left by the removed mirror in case it rains or you gotta go some where while the paint dries hard.
