Anybody changed Brakes (pads and discs) recently?

Post by max » Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:37 am

What's the currently preferred OE spec pad/disc combo? Pagid or other?

I can't remember who makes the BMW pads, I'm sure my last set of BMW pads said Pagid or Jurid on the back but I'm not sure who makes the discs?

I'm presuming using Pagid pad and disc combo should be fine if not buying BMW pads and discs?

(For e53 3.0 D Sport)

Cheers

I'd still say Jurid or ATE would be my choice.

Steer clear of Pagid.

Hi Raj
Hope you and the family are well

Is that Jurid pads and ATE discs combo? I think that combo came up when I did a forum search

All good thanks. Hope yours are too.

Yeah ATE discs with either ATE/Jurid Pads. Should be a good combination and not silly money.

Be interested to know what price you get for that combo - is it all four corners or just two. BTW I have Eibach discs and Pagid pads warped the discs  (more than once. had to get the discs skimmed - long story see my other posts), but basically switching back to OEM discs direct from BMW caused the problem to go away

Raj always makes good recommendations

Thank you buddy very appreciated.

I found out like you that Pagid aren't great and warp discs like a hot knife through butter. Plus they squealed really badly too.

Hello Raj

Would those makes also apply to the E70?

There are often decent prices available for genuine discs and pads from Cotswold or BMMiniparts

Agreed. Sometimes the dealers offer good packs for vehicles over 7 years old or something.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

BMW offer a 'value line' pad packs incl sensor wires for front and rears (which I have been told are exactly the same as the pads you buy in the non 'value line' versions except for price.) I used these on my last change and had no issues what so ever.
This time round it looks like the discs will need changing as well as the pads all round. Unfortunately BMW don't seem offer 'deal packs' on the discs.

A quick scout on line shows ATE pads/discs/sensors available from ECP and Carparts4Less. Jurid pads only available from GSF.

A few places have the Brembo pad and disc combos but I'm not sure if these will offer anything more over the ATE pad/disc or ATE disc with Jurid pad combo, except knowing I've got Brembo brakes on  O:-)

I'll decide on one of them tomorrow unless anybody else has any feedback

Just changed my pads over to Brembo via Eurocarparts. Discs are fine (OEMs 2 yr. old) and the pads with the online discount code, F&R, came to £67. I know price shouldn't be an issue for braking but I thought Brembo would be a good safe bet. So far, so good.
