Alright everyone,

I'm sadly having to get rid of my manual E60 for something automatic and an X5 keeps ticking the boxes.

Ive read online guides to the point where it's now all a blur so I have some questions I hope you can help me out with (being admin on other forums it's something I would not normally do)

It's a 53 plate 3.0d (facelift) and the problems are as follows.

Passenger door won't open for the outside. Invidious read it is a common fault but as the door pin doesn't rise I wasn't sure if it was something different to what I've read.

Tailgate hatch won't open from outside. Does open off the key and from the interior button.

Pretty sure it had a small knock turning right on a mini roundabout. Think possibly droplinks

It was a little smokey on start up but during the whole drive I noticed no more. Had apparently been sat.

Oil leak. Under tray was on so couldn't ascertain where it's going from. Didn't look like it was dropping anywhere just grubby on the under tray and sump.

Sorry for my first post to be pathetic grovelling for answers. have a picture of (one of) my car for good measure.

Hi Trix, and welcome.
Passenger door is probably a stuck latch pin as you said. You will  need to get the door card off and lubricate everything on the catch. If you can still open the door internally then do it sooner rather than later as its awkward to get the door open when everything fails.

The tailgate problem will be with the microswitches inside the rubber handle. It is possible to replace these with similar ones from Maplin, but you will have to cut the complete assembly apart to do this. You could gamble on a second hand replacement as I did, only find you have the same problem (and this was with an item only 5 years old). So the choice I am afraid is new, or replace the switches as I have just done.

Cant help with the dieselly bits as mines petrol  O:-) O:-)

Smokiness could be as simple as it needs the filters changed.
First one to check/change is the Crankcase breather. If it has the toilet roll type change straight away to the later vortex type.

Thanks gents.

All together she looks very tidy and it's only the leak/residue oil that causing me concern as I don't know where it's from.
