Turbo Noise

Hi Guys,
Having owned my first turbo car (2005 E53 3.0d Sport) and driven it for a couple of weeks I have noticed the turbo whistle when i put my foot down at roughly about 3000 - 3200 rpm, not that noticeable inside the car but clearly audible with windows down, I know they are supposed to make some noise so my questions are;
How do I tell or get a mechanic to check it is ok?
The car has plenty of power i'm just concerned as I have read on here if it is to loud it is about to go. What is my worst and best case scenario?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% but I think most if not all of them make the whistle noise, mine certainly does. On other cars it can be a split intercooler pipe or leak elsewhere in the system but like I said on these I think its normal

Hi MindOne.
Just like you, I thought there must be an issue but having had the car (2006 E53 3.0D Sport) 4 years now with the whistle it must be the norm as I've not had any issues. Unless someone with a lot more knowledge than me now says I've been lucky and everything about to go fubar.

My 2004 D-Sport has a whistle & the gasket between the Exhaust down-pipe & turbo is blowing a little....
Performance is good, as the gasses are on the exhaust OUTLET side of the turbo, but it's making a bloody mess of soot under the bonnet... so gotta get it done some time soonish me thinks...
Most garages should be able to find the blow...

Likewise, I liked it too on my 2005 Did a great job of hiding the diesel clatter at lower speeds and revs.
E70 doesn't and definitely sounds more clattery with the windows open

My 56 plate E53 has a lovely whistle, and certainly doesn't drive like it has any issues. Or show signs of any leak under the bonnet.
I think its a fairly typical noise for this engine.
