Used X1 purchase

OK I admit I am being lazy and there probably a nice thread on this already, but i'll ask anyway...
Dad wants to change his Nissan Qashqai, I'm thinking about pointing him towards a 2009-2011 X1 but have no experience or know of any particcular issues they may have. Looking for any general X1 advice, purchase will be via a dealer.

Compared to the new X1, the previous model seems less well regarded.
What's his budget? Has he looked at the new Qashqai? What does he need a car to do?

This is cancelled now, we kind of assumed X1 being an X would have that higher seating position but its barely higher then normal car, so he has written it off.
New Qashqai considered, but he has a real issue with the fact that the engine and parts are now mostly French, don't ask me why please.
Now moving on to consider the Kia Sportage in Auto which seems rare, manuals all over the place.
