Concierge Disappeared
Concierge Disappeared
Evening,
ConnectedDrive (and the dealer) show that I have Concierge service. Wanted to use it for the first time yesterday, and it has vanished from the in-car menu. It is definitely still valid - any ideas? Do I need to add my credit card to the ConnectedDrive portal to make it reappear?
Checked various sources, and it is not where it should be.

Re: Concierge Disappeared
Worth a call to BMW to see what they messed up! I had to do all my own password settings and account setup as the Dealer forgot to do it! It is customer specific.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Concierge Disappeared
BMW UK (the local dealer transferred me after the in house expert said they hadn't heard of this) advised:
Go to the Connected Drive section
Go right on the iDrive controller to enter the options screen.
Select Software Update.
Guess what - No software update option!
This threw the BMW UK specialist, who fessed up that they have been having some issues with online services for over a week and to keep trying until the option reappears!
Two mitigating points here:
After picking the car up, and before realising I had to enter details in the portal to get it configured, I selected "software update" and I thought the menu had reduced by one item, but I was too unfamiliar with it to realise what had happened.
I live in an area with very low mobile telephone coverage.
Will resolve to try again when I go for a drive. Failing that, I suspect a trip to the dealer to plug in and flash the software may be required - perhaps it has defaulted to a very early firmware release.
We were just discussing how easy it would be to spoof the BMW system and send unlock and other commands to the car remotely - presumably it is not a data service and all done by coded SMS messages. I hope they haven't been hacked!

Re: Concierge Disappeared
Software update returned some time between midday and 8pm.
Ran the update twice - Still no concierge.
Will speak with the dealer tomorrow and visit Saturday.

Re: Concierge Disappeared
BMW are having issues with their server farm and it might be up and running again by the weekend.
They have also discontinued their Internet Service as of last month, but are still taking money for it! Refunds are now being processed. They have yet to publicly announce any of this. >:(
Condor found out through having problems and spoke to BMW GB about it.

Thanks. They'd do well to keep their dealers informed! Service centre today - after explaining what it was and that it was definitely still valid, they manually flashed the firmware in the car, to no avail.
Annoyingly, I bought an iPhone connector that has been very intermittent. Dealer got it to work, locked and unlocked - wouldn't work.
Now booked in for them to take a good look at - Earliest is in a month's time - well after my right to reject the car expires. Curiously, I note the offside wing is about 4mm lower than the nearside at the bonnet interface too. So much for BMW approved used. They also said that whatever they find will need to be signed off by BMW UK to findout 'what contribution' they will put in - should be 100pc on a 2 week old used purchase, surely, plus whoever conducted the PDI needs to take another look at their procedures.
They were at least nice enough to take a good 30m to look at the car. They made up a new set of plates, but I now note that someone has drilled almost right through one of the old plates - bit of an amateur error. I could have done that myself and saved a few quid! Still, they're being polite and helpful which goes a long way in my book.

Re: Concierge Disappeared
They moved head office to Farnborough fairly recently. I wonder where/when/if they moved the server farm and whether it was recently. They took over the old Nokia building, if my memory serves me well.
Re: Concierge Disappeared
BMW Approved used is just another insurance backed system, and many second owners on here gave found too many dealers using it as a way to get someone else to pay for putting things right.
AFAIK the BMW servers are all in a German data centre (aka bit barn), including their web interface portal.
You can reject the car immediately as it isn't your fault they can't resolve it for a month.

Re: Concierge Disappeared
Having Googled, I suspect that what used to come up as 'Concierge' is actually 'BMW Assist' - Will test it out soon to confirm. If true, a shame BMW UK and the dealer couldn't figure that one out! If it has simply been renamed, then it has been there all long.
Re: Concierge Disappeared
Concierge seems to be a combo of Info Plus and BMW Assist and BMW Assist Extended which is what my services available menu shows. I was on the phone for some time to a number of BMW GB customer service people last week - the server farm in Germany was indeed posing some problems apparently but this has been resolved. I paid for Internet -I think the option was "Connected Plus" only to be told they discontinued the service in July (but are brazenly still flogging it). They blame this on "marketing department" who have not changed the options availBle or the price shown on the website. They said they would refund me the difference.
Internet does not show up as one of my available active services although curiously, it is still on the iDrive menu and connects quite easily to Google still plus I can enter google search with the idrive controller and it works.
