Recommend Garages in the Devon/Cornwall Area

Post by grumpywurzel » Sat Aug 20, 2016 10:52 am

Don't know if this is the sort of thing that's already been done, I have searched and not found anything here. All of the car forums I have been on had a sticky with member recommended garages in their area. I get asked a fair bit where I have had work done here in Devon. I have wasted a fair bit of money using a garage full of chimps on my X5, not going to name any names, don't want to get the site into any litigation.

OK here goes-

The only place I will trust to have any genral work done is Phil Davies in Stonehouse, Plymouth. Really top guys, realistic labour charges and there to actually help, not rip you off. Will only use OEM parts, like I say top notch service.

Gearbox work- used to be called DJ Transmissions (still listed as that on the tinterweb) but go by the name of The Devon Gearbox Centre, Plympton,  Pymouth. Honestly unbelievably nice people, (Paige the receptionist is nuts lol), "Proper" engineering at its best, none of this gleaming surgical technician rubbish. Highly recommended from other garages in our area, wouldn't go anywhere else for gearbox work.

Remap, Engine tuning, etc-  Alan Jeffrey in Plympton. Big in the Scooby/EVO world, he has cars from all over the UK and further afield all going to him for all varieties of engine work. When I went there it was like a mini meet of racing cars and Lambrettas! They are a Celtic Tuning dealer, Martin and his dad Alan know their stuff. Fitted my Cobra exhaust for free as I had the remap done at the same time, cant grumble at that.

This is my experience of great service down here.

Cheers
