Hi guys, my father has bought his first 2002 X5 petrol only approx 2 months ago.

Already he has the "Self levelling susp inactive" warning on the dash. The thing is the suspension is working ok, its not sitting low etc etc.

It first came on about 3 weeks ago, the message went of on its own after turning the car of.
It then Re-appeared the other day.

Thanks in advance.

A frequent cause of this is a failing battery.  Worth checking how old the battery is (it is underneath the spare wheel in the boot).  Batteries much older than 4-5 years will be heading towards end of life.  If the car is only being used on short journeys, that will mean the battery is not being charged properly and as it gets low, the warnings come on.

It is triggered simply by the computers not getting enough volts at a crucial moment.  Most often occurs at start.

Having been through all this recently with the twin axle system you need to see what fault it is showing bfore troubleshooting any further.

A battery a fuse check is a good starting point along with checking for air leaks however after that you need to see what the control unit is seeing.

If its just rear air check the control unit is not wet from a water in the boot issue :)
