How do folks,
I'm doing this on behalf of my 62 year old mother who has just jumped onto the X5 ownership waggon with glee!
I hope and pray she doesn't regret it, but she was adamant it's what she wanted and who am I to say otherwise!
Anyway, she's just picked up a black/black 2004 4.8si with 130k on the clock. It's somewhat different to the average granny cars, but suits her perfectly. There are a couple of issues, Nav screen dead and headlight lenses yellowing, but I will peruse the forum before asking questions that have already been answered previously, just wanted to make the initial intro here out of courtesy before I come back asking for more.

Welcome, Granny is just a youngster, I am 73 and have been a member since the forum started and the previous late lamented forum.
You will get all the help required, just ask, and if the question has already been dealt with, so what.
With the number if new members joining it's good to have new blood.

Lol, not to worry Alex, she is a granny, well nana as she is known.
I've just given her, her first introduction to X5 ownership costs...it needs new tyres all round. That made the smile straighten slightly!
Must admit, I don't think I've seen rubber that size outside of super cars!

Hi and welcome to your mother
Her choice of car is very good and a nice colour combo. a definite improvement over my mothers Fabia 1.4
)
Although my mother in law has a sporty Fiat Abarth
Re the headlights yellowing, there have been a couple of threads on here showing how it is done by sanding and polishing the lenses, and I believe there is a kit you can also now buy for doing this.
Alternatively some go for the depo aftermarket xenon headlights where they have normal (non xenon) headlights so its depends on cost and choice.
Re the Sat Nav screen is just a display screen it could be that which is faulty or the main nav unit in the boot on the near side. It's worth checking that the unit is there and has the nav disc iirc it says dvd on it, and if I'm wrong one of the others will correct me.
The reason for saying do this that is some owners have replaced the head unit with another one at some point and taken out the nav unit in the rear. Assuming the nav unit is in and working with power to it and disc is there then it's probably a faulty display screen or a loose connection. There are plenty or spare screens available on here or eBay and aren't too expensive.
The forum should be able to help with how to's and threads on these and yes they do have supercar size tyres because they are super cars to own

Many thanks for the replies folks.
She has just asked me what else the nav unit does? She can still get the radio through the wheel controls so is happy with that. Obviously by not having the screen she has no nav, but what else would she not have access to? I'm assuming BT connectivity is dealt with through that screens menu also the BC is displaying in French so I assume that's changed via the display too? Anything else she won't be able to access that anyone is aware of?
Cheers, Benn.

If its switched to French you must have a non OEM disc in it. Discussions on non OEM satnav discs are forbidden on this site. You can acquire a genuine one from the dealers or a pre used genuine one from eBay.
