How do you remove the aluminium plates from running boards?

Evening all,

I've tried cleaning my running boards by removing the plastic grommets and machine polishing using abrasive pads and metal polish, but they still don't meet my OCD standards, but much better! :)

My question is, if i order new ones, how do I remove the old ones and fit them? Are they bonded on, just prise them off?

Hi guys,

Just to clarify, it's these aluminium plates I'm trying to seperate from the running boards, but unsure if they're bonded and therefore just need prised off or are clipped on.

Me personally keep cleaning the originals you'll get there in the end.

Atmospheric pollutants attack the  the anodised aluminium surface and once you rub it away with an abrasive  you'll expose bare aluminium.  Aluminium is quite reactive so atmospheric oxygen quickly oxidises it - but not in a smooth anodised way - leaving white dusty deposits of aluminium oxide.  One cure. albeit temporary is to use a little vaseline on a cloth and rub it in.  The treatment doesn't last long though and needs to be repeated.  It's an old trick of the trade to make aluminium surfaces look good just prior to sale!
