Hi all. New 2007 X3 owner here. I've made my introductions in the new member section and recived a friendly response, thanks.
So engine temp and coolant; I've read on here and other BMW forums they the running temp is quite crucial to achieving decent MPG results, people are recommending the need for high 80's. So I did a test run and only archived 77c. So I have changed the easy EGR stat today and am now getting 79-82c, temp gauge straight up in the middle. Checked on the torque app. I also purchased the main stat (opens at 88c). In your combined wisdom is it worth the 2-3hours it looks like it is going to take me to replace the main stat, it's looks fairly well buried under the EGR heat exchanger. By the way, I'm currently achieving 23mpg on my short journeys and circa 28mpg on a 50-70 mile run.
Any advice / opinion will be gratefully recived.
Tony.

Re: 3.0sd coolant temperature and MPG
Yes, definitely worth doing main stat.
I get local around 26mpg and 37mpg on a decent run
On a recent run to Milton Keynes with a trailer I got 34.9mpg over 270 miles.
