BMW Connected Drive / Internet

Hello,

I picked up an 2012 X3 a couple of weeks ago. It came with the Pro Navigation package (609) as well as internet.
Being almost 4 years old the internet function has expired and I'm contemplating re-activating it.

However I know nothing about it - what exactly does my £120 a year get me here? Will my life be better for it?
Or is it something that's just not worth paying for?

Personally I wouldn't bother.
I've got it on my car and its useless. Apart from the remote features like putting the cooling on "hardly needed here in blighty", there not a lot else it does.

As for the internet....... It's 3G, you'll get a faster connection using a Nokia from 1995 than the in-car Internet, it's shockingly slow.

Think of it as another BMW gimmick they released and now can't be bothered to maintain and upkeep.

Can you heat the car up remotely?

No, it just switches the fan on,as the engine isn't on there,s no heating or cooling just air at ambient temperature.

Had BMW actually discovered 3G in 2012?  I thought back then they were still running in 2.5G at around 9.6kBaud?  It is certainly dreadfully slow.  The only thing I did with mine was send data from Google maps to the Satnav and I let it lapse a year ago as it wasn't worth the money.

I have it in my X because it came free but as other posters have said its a waste of £120 renew fee, even the new Vauxhall cars are running 4g Internet as advertised on tv, and not notably a premium brand![emoji80]

Indeed.  Even my Skoda has 4G and built in WiFi.  :)

I find myself using the map function a lot.  Look up destination/postcode within the android app>send to vehicle.  Once in the car, check messages and bingo > navigate.
I have it until Oct 2017,and will pay the £120 to keep this feature, as it saves me so much time
