my mate has one and i've always wanted one
that was until i drove his last month it felt very agricultural and uncomfortable compared to my x5 even he was surprised at how much more comfortable the x5 was

if i was driving up mountains every month i'd still want one but for what i do i'll stick to the X

I have a 300tdi (Disco 1) and that obviously is a world apart from the X..
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

I owned a 3 and a 4. Both nice cars but nowhere near the X5. More capable off road, but the worst ours saw was a field, so irrelevant. 3's are showing their age inside. Our 4 was a lemon - 59 plate with 50k on the clock when we got rid, we'd had 2 new turbos and it was blowing oil seals far too regularly.

The 2.7 engine lacks a little power!

A good friend of mine bought one to replace his E53 as he needed 7 seats and found the E70 boot too small with the third row of seats up.

Although it meets his spacial requirements he's described it as agricultural compared to the X5 which he enjoyed owning.

Another friend, who's big into his off roading suggested i'd made the right decision and was very uncomplimentary about the Disco 3, even though he's a big Landrover fan, stating it's basically a badly built Ford.

I'm very glad I ended up with an X5, even though I was looking for an Audi Q7, lol.

Having run both, the BMW is far and away the better option unless you want to get up Snowdon!
