Morning all

I have just brought an x5 e70 2008 70k milage sd what a powerfull car for the weight its carrying well impressed withpower will tow my caravan a dream but

This week it has developed and rubbing noise and can only describe it as sounding like a metal plate thin metal i would say rubbing on a rotating part but its continuouse gets bit better wen bumps in the road are hit. I have looked underneath and heat sheild around exhaust all looks secure ans cant see anytbing obvious due to all the underbody protection sheilds.

So question is what can it poss be?
Has anyone else experianced this problem?

Allso how do i find the build number for this car so i can check what featurws its actually built witb?

Thanks peeps  :)

Hi

If you can check each wheel in turn poss jacking up one wheel at a time, leave wheel on and rotate it to see if you here the noise, or if friendly with your local Indy they may be able to put on ramp but that may cost you.

Then it is worth check you don't have a stone stuck between the the disc and the back plate as had that on my wife's old Astra, it was the local garage that found that one. Also you can check for bearings depending on mileage

^^ What he said...

Check the brake protection shields, could be a stone, particularly if the noise has just developed, but I had an issue when a (chain) tyre and exhaust fitter was changing-over my summer / winter wheels for me.  They managed to drop one of the wheels off the hub onto the shield plate, which bent enough to constantly rub lightly on the brake rotor

All sorted now peeps

Had it up on mates lift at mot centre and he noticed one of the from plates behind the disc had the little air intake vent missing and fallen behind between the rest of the plate and disc.

Phew expence saved there.

Thanks for advice i am sure i will be back for more as my ownership of this amazing powerfull w tonne machine goes on.

What a machine  :)

Thanks for advice.
