Hi guys. So i spent a merry afternoon loosening stuck rear caliper. Pushed in and out a few times and all seems fixed. But the caliper and the piston have seen much better days and will need replacing soon.
Am I right in thinking that replacing a caliper will require the ABS valves to be cycled afterwards and if so does anyone know if the BMW scanner do such a thing?

Re: ABS valves and calliper chage
It normally requires the use of GT1 (BMW Specialists) software. If you don't get air in the system then you should not have a problem.
You can either bleed the system under a low vacuum from the back, or low pressure (20psi or less) from the front. I did our E46 last Spring at about 18psi from the front and had no trouble.

Thanks for that, good to know... although I suddenly occurs to my I've been an eejit. I assumed the ABS valves were part of the callipers but suddenly occurred to me they are probably not. So as long as the flexi pipes are clamped off properly it should be golden... what could possibly go wrong )
Re: ABS valves and calliper chage
i've just replaced the nearside rear caliper on my x5
i had no problems bleeding it but i think its because i'd clamped the hose before i swapped it
i'm dreading changing the rear hoses i think i'll have to get hold of some bmw software to do it

The ABS unit is under the bonnet and comes in circuit after the master cylinder. As long as you can keep the air out of that you'll be fine.
