Just got an email from Vines to say my car is no ordered and will go into production shortly.

Apparently they now send a string of emails throughout the build keeping the new owner/client informed of the progress almost as well as they do in he states (and have done for some years!)

Spec as follows (I guess I will have some weeks to change if I want?)

M50d M Sport
20" M Double-spoke 468M wheels
Comfort access
Reverse assist camera
Pano roof
Comfort seats
Sun protection glass
Third row seats
Adaptive LED lights
High beam assist
Surround view
HUD
Harman/Kardon
Enhance Bluetooth
Multi-function display panel
Speed limit display
Space grey
Black leather

All the other bits you get as standard.

Quite excited actually  :)

Slight change of plan.....

I've removed the multi-function display and added driving assistant plus (does anyone have this feature, is it as good as it appears?)

Thinks that's it and I'll mentally lock it down now  ::)

DA+ is the one option I wish I had, just for ACC.

The one option I'm really glad I have that I wouldn't have previously spec'd myself (I bought second hand) is leather finish on the instrument panel - it really lifts the sense of quality in the cabin.

I had thought of leather dash however I need to draw the line somewhere  ;)

I've seen videos of the ACC and it looks like it performs very well.

I have ACC on the Skoda and it works very well.  Set a speed and distance (in seconds on mine so the gap increases with speed) and the car just sits there.  Really useful in stop/start traffic too as the car just drives itself along in the queue.

It doesn't work in heavy rain, or snow as they upset the radar.  But then you shouldn't really be using cruise in those conditions.

It is useful in thick fog too because (on mine) it can detect a target about 250m ahead that you can't even see, and then tracks its speed, decelerating to match.  Just set maximum range and a sensible speed and it is like having a clever pair of eyes looking into the fog but able to see.  :)

That sounds very clever.

I think the BMW system has a range of 150m but works in probably much the same way I guess.

Bit of bad news I'm afraid............

I've just cancelled my order  :(

However............

It's being placed again in a week or so which will mean I get the 2017 X5 which now comes with touchscreen gesture sat nav as standard just like the new 7 series.

This was suggested by my dealer who kind of guessed I'd be a tiny bit pissed off if my car was delivered in the knowledge the spec changed 1 week or so after they started the process.

Other changes are as follows:

There's a pack to include:

HUD
Sun protection glass
20" wheels
Speed limit
Harmon Kardon

All of which I have spec'd and it's cheaper than buying as individual options

Enhanced bluetooth no longer exists and you get wireless charging (should your phone support it) and built in wifi hotspot.

So not all bad news  ;) :P 8)

Excellent.  Skoda have gone the other way.  Downed the spec of the top of the range car by £4K, and then upped the price of the car by £4K!  So the top model is now nearly £46k.  Methinks Skoda are outselling VW and that isn't going down well.  Waiting times for a new Superb are up to 9 months.  Who would have thought that would ever happen?

WTF

I suppose if you can reduce the spce and increase the price and still have a 9 month waiting list then happy days  8)

That is interesting mogsyman. Do you have your build date yet ?
I placed my order in April, i'm still waiting on a definite build date, but have been told that it should be sometime in July with an hopefull delivery to the UK by the end of August. I did query with the dealer regarding the 2017 X5 build and was told that the factory is shutting down for the whole of August and only builds after this (September) would have things like the new iDrive update.

My sales guy is away currently but I was told two weeks ago he's waiting for the BMW dealer site to be updated and he's then going to place the order again on their system.

As I write I don't think that's been done and bearing in mind my M5 isn't due to go back until the end of November I'm in no rush (fortunately)

You may well be correct re build dates, my original order had to be registered by the end of September to get the discount t I did. If the dealer has decided to hold on I'll still expect the same discount which I'm sure they'll be more than happy to offer........ :(

So is the 2017 an LCI (if so, do you have any further details?), or are the only differences in the options/ kit as standard?

I don't think mine has been built yet, so will need to be quick to cancel/ reorder it, if there will be major updates.

I don't think this is an LCI but it does have some changes that are worthwhile.

My dealer has just emailed me to confirm my car is being built after week 31 which is from August 1st and will have the new iDrive etc.

if yours hasn't been built yet you could do the same and ask your dealer to cancel it and reinstate it to be built after week 31
