Front wheel bearing replacement

Hi a what i thought was a decent mechanic changed a front driver wheel bearing on my 2004 e53 when i went to collect my car abs was on he told me that i must of had a faulty sensor. But abs was not on when i took the car to him i did say to him the bearing only fits in one way as the abs pulse runs from it. He told me there is a ring running on the outta case of the bearing and this goes to the abs. Is this correct because if it is right then he has damaged a sensor and if its wrong he has put the bearing in the wrong way. Does anyone know the answer to this? Thanks in advance.
