Have I cracked my HID Xenon error msg problem?...
Have I cracked my HID Xenon error msg problem?...
I love my new HID Xenon dipped beams - 55w, 5000k white light - very bright and very white, but...
About half the time I've been getting the 'self leveling suspension inactive' warning when I use the headlamps. I know it's a bogus warning and there's nothing wrong with the suspension, but it's annoying. Anyway...
I've noticed that if I switch the headlights on BEFORE I switch the ignition on I don't seem to get the error message. I'll keep doing this and confirm in a week or so if it's a 100% solution.
In the meantime, if you're getting headlamp-related bogus error messages it might be worth trying it too.

Car does a check before start up hence the error.
Come to the forum meet and Jason might be able to code the check-out for you.

Coded mine out and since then i have not had this problem.
Re: Have I cracked my HID Xenon error msg problem?...
Thanks for this advice. I've been thinking about coming to the May Meet, but not sure if I can get there. I shall if I can.
If I can't, would it be possible for me to cancel the code permanently, using the scanner I've just bought, or is it not that simple? Is there a known code number? (I haven't dared to usethe scanner yet - installing it on my old laptop wore me out!).

Which scanner do you have? you will need pa soft 1.4 thats the easiest one to use anyway.

I got this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291690740134?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I have no idea if it's any good, but it was cheap (that's me )
Incidentally - back to the main theme of the thread - I used the car again tonight, turning the lights on before starting her up and NO ERROR MESSAGES again. It's looking good as an easy way round the error messages, even if it's not a permanent fix

Re: Have I cracked my HID Xenon error msg problem?...
One thing to check is that PWM is turned off for dip beam.....
That's what used to trigger mine off!

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Thanks. I'll check that when I find out what on earth it is - and how to turn it off.

Re: Have I cracked my HID Xenon error msg problem?...
Pulsed Width Modulation.......used to dim the dip beam bulbs. You can't run car bulbs at low voltage as the filament evaporates but you can pulse the 12v to have the same effect. The way it's done is to vary the length of a 12V pulse, hence PWM.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Wow. That's a new one on me. How do you turn it off? Via the scanner?

Possibly.
I had to use NCS Expert to turn mine off..
Reflashed the LCM and turned a few other bits on at the same time!!
