Help please.....

Recently bought a 2007 X5. After about a week i drove to work and went to start back up 5 mins later and battery was dead. Jump started and fired up straight away, clock had reset and said battery discharge on errors. Did again 5 days later so replaced the battery. Has been fine for over 2 weeks and today has done the same, drove it for an hour and went to start back up 5 mins later and all lights on dash came on but would not start. Jumped it and fired up straight away with no error codes listed. Anybody else experienced the same issue?? Would be greatly appreciated for any help

Many Thanks

You are going to need to check the voltages at the charging/jump start points under the bonnet.

Engine running you should see at least 14.4V.  After 4 hours from switch off it should not be less that 12.6V

When the battery was changed, was the car recoded with the new battery?  The E70 has an intelligent charging system which needs to be programmed with the battery type and capacity.  If it isn't done then the car assumes it's still the same old battery and won't charge it correctly.

If that was done properly then it indicates a parasitic draw somewhere in the electrics.  The most likely will be the final stage resistor (aka The Hedgehog) which is part of the air conditioning system.  Where that is hidden in the E70 I don't know.  It isn't an expensive part but when it goes faulty it can kill the battery.  On the E53 X5 it is just above and to the left of the pedal cluster.

Finding a parasitic draw is a long process involving identifying which circuit the problem is on.. :(

The intelligent charging cap caused this on my E60.  The car would drain the battery intermittently. As above check the battery is being charged correctly whilst running and coded. If ok then start looking at the intelligent cap.
