Having narrowed my next car down to an X3, I did want a 3.0D... however they appear very rare indeed
Is the 2.0D  up to the task?
I would rather have a 2.0D  high spec car  than a 3.0D  with no frills at all

Not exactly the same car but near enough. I find the 20D more than adequate for my F26. 188bhp twin turbo plenty of grunt when you need it.

The question reads to me like you want a 3.0d,but are willing to compromise with the smaller engine, because the right spec isn't coming along right now -  my advice would be to wait until one does, or you may end up regretting your choice, everytime a 3.0d goes by....

Acceptability of any performance is subjective.

Drive both then decide. Obviously the 3.0 will give better performance.

Personally I found the F25 2.0d with the 8 speed auto adequate but I didn't push it to autobahn speeds

My daughter thinks her 1.2 polo is quick, and yet my friend thinks his Aston Martin isn't quick enough! All subjective.
Go drive both and see what you think. A lot depends on budget and how long your willing to wait

My penny's worth drive try both I opted for a 3.2 cayenne and should have gone for the turbo I didn't test drive one thought it would of been to powerful for the gaffer but in hindsight I reckon she would have got used to it.

I agree go and drive both cars as that will make up your mind as to which one. From my experience I bought a 2.0 vauxhall many years ago which was a nice spec and vgc but I wanted the more powerful 2.5 Vauxhall vectra and so sold the 2 litre one after 5 months as it just wasn't right for me, and lost money on the deal.

Stick out for the right car with the right spec or the closest spec you can get to it, and there are a lot built, for example I've been looking at E70's for the last 12 months and the car type and spec changed over the time as the more I looked the more I learned about the features and what I really wanted.

Finally if you put a post up of what you are after I'm sure some the forum members will keep you advised of any they suitable cars they spot.

A good spec 30d in my budget of £22k is a rare thing indeed
but plenty of 20ds are available with loads of goodies haha
I will go and have a drive this week

My wife's 2.0d is more than sufficient. It will happily cruise all day at 90mph if you wish and has a little bit of poke when you need it.

We recently went to the South of France skiing fully loaded and it was a really good journey.

Just don't expect it to keep up with a 335 and you'll be very happy.

Depends on what you're used to or what you're comparing it to.
The 2.0 is faster than all its 2.0 rivals, some by a considerable margin.
However, if like me you were going from something smaller worth decent power the 2.0 is going to be a dreary nightmare.

I waited patiently for a 30D and got one with almost everything on it.

They're not twin turbo. They have 2 entry points to a single turbo.  Hence twin power turbo not twin turbo.

Completely agree and I didn't think the 20d engine in my E61 520d Touring was up to the task of shifting its kerb weight very well, yet others find the engine completely fine in terms of its performance.
