Limp mode - knock sensor - one cam bank - help?

I have an 05 4.8is with a full BRC lpg conversion. not driven much recently due to ill health but friend took it in for service to local Deeside indy BMW specialists - on way home went into limp mode so back to garage.......now gets a bit strange, they say fault shows as "knock" sensor, theres "probably" an issue with the cam on one bank of engine and i could be looking at £2000+
They won't be more specific so I'm looking for some advice - can't say I'm hugely trusting of them to carry out work if they can't be speciic - would you bounce this up to local main dealer for better guarentee of work quality?
