Reversing Alarm

My X5, being ex-Japan, has this dreadful chime whenever I engage reverse. I can understand the use of an external alarm to warn others you are reversing but if the driver needs an alarm to remind him which direction he is going I don't think he should be behind the wheel!
How can I disable this?

Do the Japan spec vehicles have parking sensors and can you turn them off from the switch in the centre console?
The reverse chime may be something only a dealer can disable as cutting the wire to the alarm would probably kill all of the chime type warnings. I am assuming that the PDC system is OK and there's not a faulty sensor causing a constant warning.

You need to get the vehicle order data updated to reflect a uk car(in ews or kombi) and then recode it.... It will also widen you fm radio bands....

The car doesn't have PDC. Most ex-Japan cars seem to have this alarm so perhaps it is a legal requirement there.
I don't know how to recode a car so I guess its a job for the dealer.
Thanks

Dealer job unless you have bought your own scanner.

Following the advice above I ordered one of these BMW Scanners 1.4.0 directly from China. I was able to install it on my laptop without too many tears and now have auto locking doors, a must in this part of the world, and have expanded the FM radio frequencies. These 2 items alone mean the unit has paid for itself already.
However, I can't find the settings to turn off the reversing alarm which was my original requirement!
Can anyone help me here?
